The MLC Vision

To create a dynamic learning community which focuses on the development of the whole child during the early childhood years. We serve children 3 months through 6 years utilizing the Montessori method. Childhood is a time of intensive growth and development and nurturing a child during formative years in a creative, dynamic, loving environment is our goal.

Advocating for creative communities and entrepreneurs since 2003

Our mission at Montessori Learning Collective is to work with children, families and educators in the Lowcountry of Charleston, SC. Our goal is to elevate quality Montessori practices within our community. We hope to share knowledge in child development to inform our educational practices and to collaborate in sharing knowledge that will empower young children to meet their full potential. Dr. Maria Montessori developed a child development practices based on scientific research. The careful observation of children is central in understanding their development to make informed choices on the learning environment and knowledge shared with each individual child. The careful study of the stages of child development empower caregivers to specialize in three year periods of a child’s life. The first three years of life are of the highest importance as the child forms attachments, gross motor development explodes, oral language is acquired, and healthy routines are established. Dr. Montessori, Dr. Pikler, and Magda Gerber inform our practices during the Nido and Casita environments. As children move toward 3 years old the Montessori methodology is followed to empower young children in their individual development including the areas of: practical life, sensorial, global studies, sciences, peace education, language, mathematics, geometry, gardening, yoga, art, etc. Our goal of serving the whole child and family in a high quality Montessori learning environment is an act of love made visible in our school."

Director’s Note

This spring we celebrate our six month anniversary! We are thrilled to behold the growth that our first year has brought. The families in our community are a joy to serve. The children in our care have dynamic personalities and incredible interests: hawks, tree frogs, flags, art, fish tanks, tasting gardens. Thus far, we’ve watched our first babies learn to crawl, stand and walk! We have celebrated the budding naturalist, and readers. One of the dearest thanks to witness each day is the affection and heartfelt kindness the children have for each other as they go through the routines of their days. From the Nido environment, all the way to five year olds, the warm hearted connections the children have nurtured and developed are the heart and soul of what we do each day at Montessori Learning Collective. A deep note of thanks and gratitude to all of our educators and families that have made our school a dream realized.

“Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence.”

Joy, feeling one’s own value, being appreciated and loved by others, feeling useful and capable of production are all factors of enormous value for the human soul.
